The
Assiniboin hunter, 'Spiritus', stands alone in the pathless,
snow-covered forest. Through his prayers to the powerful
guardian spirit, he seeks
a visionary journey with the gods. After hours of prayer in the
cold, unbroken silence, Spiritus receives a sign of the guardian
spirit's presence and
watches his soul rise to meet the gods. He is now empowered to
intermediate between the two worlds- and by faithfully
interpeting
the supernatural visions, he can successfully provide guidance
to his people through the harsh winter
months. |

The phyical and spiritual image of Spiritus
mystifyingly comes alive in this
sculpture created by Tonella. It echoes the tranquility and
unquestioning faith of the Assinboin Nation.
The original sculpture of Spiritus is carved in wax, casted in
bronze, and finished
with colored patinas and paints. The raised detailing of the indian
headpiece
makes this an unusal work of art and painstakingly difficult to
reproduce. Limited edition of 30. |
